Domaine Hubert Lignier
Charmes-
Chambertin 2021
"Three generations of the Lignier family have worked these vines. Laurent has inherited not just the plots, but the philosophy: no shortcuts, no compromise, let the terroir speak."
Winemaker
Laurent Lignier
Domaine Hubert Lignier · Morey-Saint-Denis
Son of the legendary Hubert Lignier, Laurent took over the domaine in 2004 following his father's passing. He trained under some of Burgundy's finest and has since refined the house style — more precision, less extraction, absolute faithfulness to each parcel's character.
The Wine
Charmes-Chambertin is the largest of the Gevrey Grand Crus, bordering Chambertin to the east. Lignier's parcel sits on the upper slope where the limestone is closer to the surface — this gives their Charmes a more mineral, lifted character than producers lower on the hill. Aged 16 months in barrel, with a fraction of new oak that leaves no trace except structure.
The Vintage
2021 was Burgundy's redemption after a string of difficult summers. A cool, slow-ripening season rewarded patience in the vineyard. The wines have exceptional acidity and clarity — less opulent than 2020 or 2019, but more precise. For Pinot Noir in Gevrey, this is the year purists circled. It will age gracefully for two decades.
